About
My Cycling Story
Cam Nicholls Cycling Journey
In 2007 I returned from two years living and travelling overseas. I was overweight, generally unhealthy, and looking to settle back into life in Melbourne, Australia.
Being active in my younger years – enjoying rowing, athletics, Aussie Rules and Rugby as a school boy – the booze and overseas lifestyle had really caught up with me. 92kgs was my peak ‘fat’ weight in 2007.
In pursuit to find my life partner, and of course feel better about myself, I started back into the fitness regime. Triathlons were my go-to.
After a few triathlon attempts I soon realised that swimming and running weren’t nearly as enjoyable as the bike leg.
A friend then convinced me to join a bunch ride here in Melbourne, and that was the real beginning. My love affair with the activity that is road cycling.
Over the journey so far I have joined cycling teams, raced competitively, and become dangerously addicted to all the bits and pieces that go hand-in-hand with cycling.
While I enjoy the racing and the ability to push the body’s physiological state, my passion for road cycling isn’t so much about the intricacies of the professional sport nor the shiny carbon products that often take our attention.
It’s much more simpler than that.
Road cycling has become my life tool for health, well being, friendship, and fun. The fact I can wrap so many of my innate desires as a human being into one activity, is testament to why cycling has become a major part of my life.
